CHIPMAN, N.B. - RCMP are investigating two homicides after the bodies of two people were found inside a burned SUV in a small New Brunswick community earlier this week.

A police spokesman said the Mounties responded Monday to a report of a vehicle fire off Midland Road in Chipman, N.B., located about 80 kilometres northeast of Fredericton.

In an interview Thursday, Cpl. Hans Ouellette said that when officers arrived at the scene, they found the bodies of two people inside a white Chevrolet Equinox that had been consumed by fire.

Ouellette said there was no other information available about the victims.

鈥淭he investigators are still working to positively identify the two victims,鈥 he said. 鈥淕iven the nature of how they were found 鈥 might make it (identification) more complex.鈥

Ouellette wouldn鈥檛 say how police determined the deaths were homicides, citing the need to protect the integrity of the investigation.

鈥淎t this time there is no indication that the general public are in danger,鈥 Ouellette said. 鈥淲hat鈥檚 believed is that this was a targeted and isolated incident.鈥

Police are asking anyone who lives near the area, or who may have been travelling through between 8 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 25 to contact them with any information, including security camera or dashboard camera footage.
