OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) 鈥 Athletics reliever Trevor May ripped Oakland owner John Fisher and implored him to sell the franchise while announcing his retirement Monday in an empassioned video message.

鈥淪ell the team, dude. ... Sell it, man,鈥 May said in a video posted on his Twitch stream. 鈥淟et someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There鈥檚 actually people who give a s--- about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy鈥檚 money somewhere else, dork.鈥

Fisher's parents founded Gap, Inc., and Fisher became majority owner of the A's in 2005. He is attempting to after talks for a new stadium in the Bay Area fell through, prompting outrage and in Oakland.

The A's have also routinely ranked near the bottom in MLB in payroll. The club finished 50-112 this season, by far the worst record in baseball.

鈥淚f you鈥檙e going to be a greedy f---, own it,鈥 May said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. ... Do what you鈥檙e going to do, bro. Whatever, you鈥檙e a billionaire, they exist, you guys have all this power 鈥 you shouldn鈥檛 have any because you haven鈥檛 earned any of it, but anyway, whatever.鈥

May confirmed his retirement plans Tuesday in a text message to The Associated Press and declined to expand further on his frustrations with Fisher. After a rough stretch in mid-April, the pitcher missed more than a month with what the team called 鈥渋ssues related to anxiety.鈥

鈥淚 have decided to step away from the game and that decision has come from a place of peace that I was able to find through all of the trials and support that I received this year,鈥 May said Tuesday.

The 34-year-old May spent his first six seasons with the before two seasons with the . He was 4-4 with a 3.28 ERA and 21 saves with 49 appearances for the A鈥檚 last season. In his last 15 outings, he went 1-0 with nine saves and 0.00 ERA.
